Meet Dawn Gilliam
My first experience in the entertainment industry was as a dancer on Thai television in Bangkok, Thailand when I was 11 years old. My father was in the Air Force, and another American family with a band asked me to dance in their performances.
At 18, I became one of the original Los Angeles Rams Cheerleaders.
That experience opened the door to my career in the entertainment industry, including my first appearance on American television on The Johnny Carson Show.
I spent 12 years in front of the camera before realizing my creativity belonged behind the scenes. Over the years, I became a filmmaker, storyteller, Script Supervisor, teacher, and mentor. I was also responsible for helping establish the Script and Continuity Department category on IMDb, giving Script Supervisors greater recognition within the industry.
At first, I only taught once a year because I was working as a Script Supervisor. Interestingly enough, people would always seem to reach out around the same time asking if I was teaching, and that was usually my sign to put a class together again.
It started to feel like destiny.
As I traveled out of state and out of the country for film projects, more people continued asking me to teach the craft. That eventually led to the creation of The Art of Continuity online course.
The course continues to grow and update in real time based on my experience working in film and television.
I teach both foundational and advanced skills of the craft because there are several layers and so much information involved in Script Supervision. I created a course that truly reflects the realities of the job.
My Mission and Vision
The vision of this course is to help train the next generation of Script Supervisors for the film industry.
The Art of Continuity was built to help students strengthen their confidence, workflow, and understanding of the job through real production experience and practical training.
The mission is to continue raising the standard of Script Supervision by showing the industry the value a strong Script Supervisor brings to every project.
